As our inspiring “In the Bag” Chair Brenda Blisk has said, “There is nothing we can’t accomplish when a group of great women get together!”
That has been true for the past 5 years as Brenda and an amazing group of women have planned and carried out the uniquely successful “In the Bag: Purses for Preparedness.” This spectacular event has netted over $350K for American Red Cross services to support people in our community every day.
The buzz about this event begins early and is heard often. It is a fantastic way to network and “shop til you drop” while at the same time helping people throughout the National Capital Region. Where else can you buy a purse and strengthen, support and save lives all at the same time?!
Funds raised through this event help your Red Cross provide emergency food, shelter and supplies to families uprooted by home fires and other disasters… teach first aid, CPR and AED training to businesses, schools and individuals and… provide assistance to the men and women of the military and their families here and abroad.
Our volunteers meet every planeload of wounded, sick and injured who arrive from overseas at Joint Base Andrews each week. Over a thousand of our volunteers continue to support them at military hospitals and installations in our community. Young people in the community donate volunteer time to reach thousands of local residents. The Red Cross partners with dozens of community organizations to serve people throughout the region.
Every contribution through the In the Bag Luncheon helps us accomplish this work.
I hope to see you at In the Bag Luncheon VI– you won’t want to miss it, I promise!
On behalf of the many men, women and children who will benefit, thank you in advance for your support and participation!
